Kenka Banchou Otome: Girl Beats Boys

Remember how I said I was a sap for mafia anime? Yep, you got it, this anime involves the yakuza. That was the only reason I decided to try out this anime... Especially considering each episode is 8 minutes long...

So if bite-sized anime are just your style, rejoice! ...If not, I feel you, but I'm still curious as to how this'll play out!

The story is pretty much centered around an orphan girl who, up until now, knew nothing of her family, but ends up finding her twin brother and learns that they're from a well known yakuza family! Somehow, her twin convinces her to take his place at an all boys school and gives her the task of becoming the boss of this school overrun with delinquents.

This anime is supposed to be action, school, shoujo, and romance. Only the first two interest me, but again, mafia. This short 12 episode anime is based off a visual novel, but has low expectations from me considering they only deemed it necessary for each episode to be 8 minutes long. So really, 3 of these episodes are one regular episode, making this more like a 4 episode anime.(Edit: IT WAS BASED OFF A HAREM GAME! orn ... This may not do the storyline any favors... )

AND ... that was my impression from before I watched the episodes that are currently out (at the time of writing this: 3).

First impression:

Honestly, my favorite thing about this anime so far is the fact that it feels like a reality tv show, and while I don't normally watch them , I feel like it works for this anime; it's more entertaining. It gives you those little sneak peaks at what the character was feeling and thinking, for example at the end of ep 2 one of the characters admits to respecting the protagonist after the events of episode 1. (They may be short episodes but im still goining to avoid spoilers!) It also helps to move the storyline along and summarize events.

A few things if you plan to watch this though, the first episode alone is confusing and doesn't really give the whole back story right off the bat, so watching the 2nd episode is necessary to understand it. Also, it's a HAREM GAME, can't go in without expecting some of the usual tropes. I can't take this anime very seriously, and I think that's the best part so far.

Unfortunately, considering the episodes aren't full length, there isn't much I can tell you otherwise yet, so keep an eye out for my review of the full season! See you later!
